ACTIVITIES TO ALLEVIATE THE FEAR OF COVID 19

PROJECT PROGRESS REPORT FOR „WE EMPOWER CROATIAN CHILDREN TO OVERCOME FEARS“

Dear Donors,

This was supposed to be a Report, as another in a series, however, the challenge posed to us by the Covid 19 virus stunned us all.

The inability to maintain physical contact, fewer events and meetings has put us in a situation where everything takes place via the internet. As the focus of the project was to socialize as much as possible with the children, exchange of information and workshops about children's fears, we felt a great constraint in carrying out everything given. Such circumstances introduced a new challenge for us.

Unfortunately, during this challenging Covid 19 period, fears increased in both adults and children. The attitude of children towards the fear of the virus largely depended on the opinion of the parents and their overcoming of such an unforeseen situation. The children were able to take their views, even though they sometimes went to their detriment.This was evident from the children’s drawings and completed questionnaires.

So, we could hardly wait for the first nice, warm days and visited a new group of children who attended the initial riding course. And to alleviate their fears caused by the virus, we made a photo session and brought them small gifts.

The most important thing for us was the smile on their faces because they could finally be in the Equestrian Club without fear of the virus and strengthen their self-confidence and self-esteem through caring for horses.

Thanks to you dear donors and supporters of the project, we are boldly moving forward despite various unforeseen circumstances such as Covid 19, which has turned all our usual ways of functioning upside down.

During this challenging period, we decided to leave all the difficult topics such as lack of self-confidence, lack of self-esteem and fear of viral diseases to parents. Parents also agreed with this, because they also believe that the most important thing for children is to play and socialize with animals, and all for the purpose of easily overcoming unexpected stressful situations in this case, with the special emphasis on the fear of Covid 19.

The realization of project activities in the previous period is in accordance with the set goals of the project, related to the following:

socializing and talking with a new group of children involved in project activities and with their parents as well,

children's photo session to remember the wonderful socializing with friends and activities with animals and

handing out gifts that included, among other things, T-shirts, chocolates, notebooks and pens.

We are paying special attention to the fact that children are traumatized by daily announcements about the number of infected and the number of deaths in Zagreb and beyond Croatia and that they are extremely sensitive to that fact during this corona crisis.

That is why we will do everything with our work and with your support to make the children happy. We will try to make children forget their current fears, to play freely and to look forward to spending time with friends and animals and in order to strengthen their well-being and their mental health.

We also believe that the pictures in the attachment will cheer you up and that you will see that your donated funds are in the right hands, because we have the same goal and that is happy and healthy children.

PROJECT PROGRESS REPORT FOR „WE EMPOWER CROATIAN CHILDREN TO OVERCOME FEARS“

During this Covid 19 period we intensify work with children in the Jarun Equestrian Club, Zagreb because they need fresh air and activities outside the classrooms to prevent the escalation of behavioral disorders caused by various fears (one of the causes is the earthquake in Zagreb and corona).

This will help prevent later severe forms of anxiety in primary school children, and at the same time contribute to solving related specific social problems and proactively influence the development of the community as a whole.

The general goal of this new phase of the project is:

strengthen professional and analytical capacities for the purpose of continuity of activities by increasing the number of specialized workshops and increasing the number of children involved in the program

The specific objectives of this new phase of the project are:

preparation of an expert study for the purpose of maintaining specific activities in primary schools during a class community hour,

in order to apply new ways of education, expert study has to be implemented for the purpose of detection deviations in the behavior of children covered by the program and

for the implementation of the program in at least three primary schools in Zagreb.

The realization of project activities in the previous period is in accordance with the set goals of the project, related to the following:

workshop at the Equestrian Club, Jarunwhich were held for small groups of children and parents,

lectures were given by psychologist Ana Šeremet, in order to minimize the experience of fear in both children and parents and

thanks to the project, six children aged 8-12 attended an introductory riding course at the Equestrian club, Jarun.

In this new phase, in accordance with the current rules of action related to the corona virus, we will improve the interaction between children and animals because animal-assisted therapy has a number of mental health benefits such as:

Increases self-esteem, and ability to take care of one’s self,

Strengthens communication between children and parents,
Lessens feelings of anxiety, isolation, and grief,
Reduces feelings of loneliness and
Increases socialization and sense of community.

CONDUCTING WORKSHOPS

PROJECT PROGRESS REPORT FOR „WE EMPOWER CROATIAN CHILDREN TO OVERCOME FEARS“

In this second phase of the project, we intensify work with children at the veterinary clinic “ Fabela” and in the Jarun Equestrian Club with the help of experts, psychologists to prevent the escalation of behavioral disorders caused by various fears (one of the causes is the recent earthquake in Zagreb and coronavirus ).

The general goal of this phase of the project is:

strengthen professional and analytical capacities for the purpose of continuity of activities by increasing the number of specialized workshops and increasing the number of children involved in the program

The specific objectives of this phase of the project are:

establishment of sustainable programs for the prevention of behavioral disorders in children aged 10 g - 14 g,
holding group consultations with interested parents in order to improve their educational methods on one hand and to develop their knowledge and competencies in recognizing fears on the other hand.

The Libera Association has launched the second phase of the project, and we must primarily keep in mind the following steps:

organizing a workshops at the veterinary clinic “ Fabela” for small groups of children,

making a questionnaires for the purpose of primary therapeutic assessments for 10 children and identification of the main sources of fear in each child individually,

making drawings about fears with 10 children during workshops and also

we cheered them on with T-shirts, school supplies and with pet food

We are paying special attention to the fact that children are traumatized by daily announcements about the number of infected and the number of deaths in Zagreb and beyond in Croatia and that they are extremely sensitive to the fact that during this corona crisis, one of their dearest family members can become infected.

In this second phase, in accordance with the current rules of action related to the corona virus, we will improve the interaction between children and animals because animal-assisted therapy has a number of mental health benefits such as:
