Greeting from our team here in Guatemala,

We hope this message finds you well. Here is an update on how donations for the educational outreach project for the month of September were used. September donations were primarily used to have a celebration for the day of the child on October 1st. This day is a special day in Guatemala as childhood is cut short for many children who must leave school at an early age, who spend much of their free time helping parents take care of the house chores and other younger children in the family and some who even work a part time or full time job by the age of 8 or 10. For this day we diverged from our normal program to give the children some time to play with educational board games, laugh at the jokes of a clown, listen to a message on embracing our differences using the story of a little boy who was ashamed of a birth defect which caused him to have one deformed hand, and no Guatemalan event for children would be complete without the piñata and candy! And we got an amazing half price off deal so that each of the students could enjoy their very first ever Happy Meal! Below you will find some photos of this great event. For the month of November we will be focusing on teacher trainings as we will be shut down to newly remodel our school space to improve it for the students. We look forward to sharing photos of those teacher trainings with you as well.

As always we thank you for your support of this great project!

Best wishes,

Colleen
