Odasine is a small village in Bursa Woreda, Sidama region in Southern part of Ethiopia. Like many rural towns in the area Odasine is fertile, green, and known for its coffee production. Take a trip to Odasine and you’ll find a community of incredibly welcoming, hardworking people living cheerful traditional life’s.

However, their situation is complicated by the lack of proper infrastructure to meet their daily water needs. Their current spring is unprotected leaving it prone to contamination, pollution and a poses a danger to the people's health. Simply put, they are desperate for a dependable, source of clean safe water.

That’s where you came in...

During this turbulent and uncertain time, we are so humbled by the compassion and generosity of this community. With your support we have realized the successful construction of a spring well in Odasine village of Honcho Bulancho kebelle, which will serve over 600 rural Ethiopians year-round. At this point, we are just working on the finishing touches and hope to have the well up and running in the next two weeks. As always, we will keep you updated on the progress.

Throughout the implementation of this project your unwavering support has lifted our spirits and affirmed our dedication to improve the lives of rural Ethiopians.

We are excited and well Prepared to began the construction . . .

We were highly motivated and optimistic to secure the needed project budget that will enable us to build 2 water wells in rural villages of Ethiopia through our GlobalGiving June accelerator fundraiser. We are grateful for all who have contributed and donated to our campaign and being part of the solution. However, we only managed to secure $5,200.71 from the total project cost we anticipated to receive from the entire fundraiser that would enable us to build two wells serving 500 community members. DoW has pivoted other ways like seeking direct local individual donors to match the remaining budget of the online fundraiser target. Thankfully, DoW has secured the remaining budgets from different donors up recently. This coming week DoW will start mobilizing manpower, and construction materials to the project area, southern region of the country. Office works such as partnerships with respective government offices and local administrations are on the progress and all stakeholders are pleased with our intervention in the area. The community can't wait for us to begin the construction and be part of the project. DoW is grateful for the coming construction activities and its continuing partnership with GlobalGiving, because of this platform we are stepping forward with our vision to provide the underprivileged community - Clean Water! Our upcoming activity will be field works: Specific sites will be selected by hydrogeologists considering the beneficiaries interest and geological condition of the area; Digging the boreholes and cylinder installation will be followed; finishing the masonry works and installation of the hand pumps will be done after we confirm the amount of water we found during the digging. The entire construction is expected to be finished in three months. We can't wait to see our community's joy of clean drinking water from the newly constructed water wells in January 2021.
