Build 2 water wells for 500 villagers in Ethiopia

The dire consequences that come from a lack of clean water can be lost on those of us who can reach running tap water no more than five seconds away. For about a quarter of the world’s population however, the risk remains. The stakes have risen even higher lately with the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic where sanitation has become of utmost importance. And sanitation is almost unthinkable without clean water. Over the past year, Drop of Water has been running a fundraising campaign to construct 2 water wells to serve 500 villagers. Thanks to our wonderful donors, we were able to collect enough funds to build one of the water wells and give the villagers a better fighting chance. It was a true delight seeing all the happy faces the clean water had conjured. It is the motivation behind our continued effort. We aim to design more and more projects that benefit the community in this way. We’re currently conducting capacity building activities for our internal operations to increase our impact and work quality. We’re also excited to announce that our website will be launching soon! www.dropofwater.org So far, Drop of water has constructed over 80 water wells and transformed the lives of various rural communities for the better. We’ve partnered with over 20 organizations around the globe and fostered thousands of young volunteers and university students. We believe, success breeds success. What we’ve done so far only catapults us to greater things. Going forward, we face the last quarter of 2021 with preparedness so that in 2022, we widen our scope even further. Fetching water for her family from a newly constructed water well, 12 years old Matafe is a high-scoring student in her 5th-grade class, where she ranked first last semester. Matafe dreams of becoming either a Medical Doctor or working in an office. For now, though, only she can fetch water for her family, where she spends much of her free time waiting in line for her turn. With your help, a newly constructed water well with a tank and faucet is just a five minutes walk from her house. Before the well, Matafe used to fetch water from an unprotected spring, where she would wait in line with other girls to collect potentially contaminated water. Instead of collecting water from the surface, jar bar jar, all she needs to do now is turn the faucet. "It's a miracle!" says Matafe, who now has more time in the day to put towards accomplish her goals.

She thanks everyone who helped her village get clean water. This project has lightened the burden placed on women and young girls like Matafe. The well has been so successful that people from the surrounding area make the trip because of its reputation for being consistent, clean, and delicious.
