This year marks the 75th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We released a message video on Hiroshima memorial (August 6th) and the Nagasaki memorial (August 9th).
The videos were filmed by Takashi Arai, the director of our first virtual tour video!
English subtitles are now available! You can simply turn on CC (closed caption/subtitles) and choose English. Click here for more information on turning on/off the CC.
Message on the Hiroshimai Memorial [August 6th] - 3m23s
Hisako Maruki, a niece of Toshi Maruki and a picture book author, shares her memories with the Marukis in this video.
Message on the Nagasaki Memorial [August 9th] - 5m43s
An interview with the curater, Yukinori Okamura. While the Marukis did not experience the atomic bombing of Nagasaki first hand, they were well aware that passing on memories of Nagasaki is equally important. The last painting of the Hiroshima Panels (XV) is “Nagasaki” — which is on display at the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum.
We hope you enjoy watching them!
Finally, we are happy to announce that we have launched our global preservation fund for the Hiroshima Panels - just in time for these important days! This will be an ongoing project, and the virtual tour that you contributed will be utilized for this campaign. Thank you!
We would be so grateful if you could tell your friends and family about this new campaign!
Please stay safe and in good health!
Best wishes from the Maruki Gallery for the Hiroshima Panels
