The final trimester of the school year was extremely busy between holiday activities and then the surprising and apalling violence that struck Ecuador just last month. Classes returned to online for three weeks and upon return, teachers and students immediately began to prepare for the end of the school year and final exams.
As busy as we were, there is always time for some Environmental Education! Each class chose a material that they would recycle and turn into a special product. For example second grade turned used bottle caps into works of art! And sixth grade found discarded pieces of wood to make environmentally motivating signs!
Finally, seventh grade organized and went out for a beach clean-up!
For the next school year, we plan to continue working with Profesor Bruno and continue our hands-on workshops with him. We also hope to launch a larger scale recycling project with fundraising potential.
Due to Ecuador's precarious political situation, tourism is at an all time low for what should be our high season for business. Many of our families are struggling to pay tuition and the institution is struggling to pay its bills. We don't want this to become a reason to cut our environmental education program.
Right now, new monthly donations (up to $200 per unique donor) will have their first donation matched at 100% after four total payments. Keep the program alive and the school open by signing up for a monthly donation today!
