Dear friend,
During the first semester of this year, we have been doing a lot of activities and workshops in kindergartens of Concón. From March to May, we did a series of activities in Conconcito, Mauquitos and Puente Colmo, collaborating with teachers and families.
The first visit took place in Puente Colmo Kindergarten, located in the rural area of Concón, where there are a lot of difficulties accessing recreational activities and green areas. Also, many families has water access trouble, because of the climate change and the lack of resources. In this context, the Puente Colmo Kindergarten became the first Montessori public educational center in the region, so the open areas took a lot of importance in the educational project. That’s why we start a project to build and install a new orchard, along with families and teachers. In this space, the kids will have the chance to learn outside, eat organic vegetables and share with the community.
Then, we visit Mauquitos Kindergarten to work along the teachers to bring the orchard back to life. Due to the summer vacations and the high temperatures, the plants were having trouble growing, and so the teachers to use the space with the childrens. Considering that, we bring the tools, plants and seeds to share a beautiful morning outdoors, teaching the kids how to take care of the orchard.
Finally, we assist Conconcito Kindergarten, located in a very vulnerable area of the city. Here we built an orchard a few years ago, and from then we visit them periodically to help the teachers and childrens keep the orchard in a good condition. Along with Concón local government, teachers and the childrens, we plant lettuce, brócoli, kale and other species; also, we learn how worms help the soil to recover.
For more information about this kind of activities, you can go to our Instagram page @fundacion.minga, there you can find these and other activities we make. Also, for this second semester we will be building and installing orchards in four kindergartens and one school in the Valparaíso region. Specifically, we will be attending Viña del mar, Concón and Quintero. The project also considered workshops for families and teachers, to learn how to use these spaces for the environmental education of the childrens.
