Thank you! The Kardias team is very excited and grateful for your contributions, we are very close to our goal. We have been able to help children in need to have access to treatment for their heart condition and we have encountered beautiful stories in the process.
We want to share with you the story a little girl who stole our hearts. With your help, she had access to the heart surgery she needed and is now living a healthy normal life.
Keyli is a one year old baby girl who was born in Veracruz, in a very little and poor town , far away from access to medical care. She was so sick that she was not gaining weight and at 1 year old she was only 11 pounds. She needed to undergo heart surgery to have a healthy life.
Her parents knew something was wrong and travelled to another town to find a doctor. With very precarious instruments, the doctor was able to listen a heart murmur which confirmed that there was something wrong. The doctor told the familly they had to travel to Mexico City to find help.
Keyli arrived with the Kardias doctors having travelled for two days with almost no resources. Kardias gave her priority and gave her appropiate diagnosis and surgical treatment. The Kardias team knew that if this familly went back to their town due to the waiting list they would probably never come back and Keyli would die.
Keily is now recovered and will be going back home in time for Christmas. Her parents are in awe of how much she has changed in two weeks, her skin is no longer pale, she is playful and energetic. The smile on their faces and the relief of knowing her heart problem is now fixed and will not be a problem again is priceless.
Kardias enables access to high quality treatment for mexican children with congenital heart defects. We fundraise so that every Mexican child who needs it gets the best surgical treatment and attention. We do this by supporting a group of outstanding dedicated doctors in a innovative hybrid model combining work in the public sector and the private sector which allows us to enlarge the volume of children we assist and to improve the quality of every surgery.
