Dear Friends of Charmaghz,
Thank you for continuing to support our mobile libraries in Afghanistan. With your donations, Charmaghz was able to sustain its five mobile libraries. In addition, we launched a new van library in the Dashte Barachi area of Kabul, as well as added 10 portable library boxes.
How did we impact children’s lives?
During this period from January 2022 to August 2022, the libraries had 21,9891 visits (49.25% of them being girls). Children who visited the libraries read storybooks, participated in storytelling sessions and played games. It improved their literacy skills, mental health and critical thinking, which are our three main focus areas.
How did we spend the donations?
Charmaghz received 32,453 USD from our GlobalGiving fundraiser, and we used these funds to pay the salaries of bus drivers, librarians and librarian assistants. We also bought more books and stationaries for children, paid fuel for the mobile bus libraries and paid the rent of the buses to the Ministry of transport. The addition of portable library boxes allowed us to reach 2000 children a day.
New Campaign
We thank you for supporting this campaign. We will be closing this campaign and have launched a new campaign - Support Children’s Literacy in Afghanistan, which reflects our renewed focus on developing children’s literacy and numeracy skills. We need your support now more than ever and urge you to donate to the new campaign. If you are one of our valued monthly donors, your donations will continue, and will automatically shift to contributing to this new campaign.
Our challenges
Lack of stable financial support continues to be one of our major challenges; moreover, there remains an uncertainty regarding the Taliban’s policies with respect to NGOs. 75% of our team is comprised of women and the continued ban on women’s rights has had a tangible impact on the life and mental health of our staff. However, we continue to work tirelessly and remain committed to our mission to provide each child in Afghanistan a safe space to learn, think and wonder!
It is with your support and donations that we can continue with our work. On behalf of the children we serve, we thank you.
Warm Regards
Freshta Karim
