Dear Friends of Charmaghz,
Thank you for continuing to support our mobile libraries in Afghanistan. With your donations, Charmaghz was able to sustain its five mobile libraries for three months, from January until March 2022.
How did we impact children’s life?
During this period, the libraries had 28,351 visits (43% of them being girls). Children who visited the libraries read storybooks, participated in storytelling sessions and played games. It improved their literacy skills, mental health and critical thinking which are our three main focus areas.
How did we spend the donations?
Charmaghz received 20,838 USD from our GlobalGiving fundraiser, and we spent 18,947 USD to pay the salaries of five bus drivers, 10 librarians, and 10 Assistant librarians. We also bought more books and stationaries for children, paid fuel for the mobile bus libraries and paid the rent of the buses to the Ministry of transport.
Our challenges:
The last few months have been very tough for our team (75% of whom are women). The new bans on women’s rights by the Taliban have had a tangible impact on the life and mental health of our female staff. But they are working around the clock, to resist, to continue working fearlessly. We feel exhausted but we are committed to continuing our mission to create and run a library in each village in Afghanistan.
We shall continue:
People like you are the reason that we can continue our work and on behalf of the children we serve, we thank you.
Bests,
Freshta Karim
