Dear Friends of Empowered to Educate,
Two weeks ago, the Fellows met - in person!
During a day-long meeting in Accra they were thrilled to meet each other, to learn from each other, and to share stories in real time about their challenges and accomplishments.
Covid has presented complexities to be sure, and responses have been opportunistic: for one Fellow this has meant preparing “take home boxes” to meet the nutritional and educational needs of the children in her program; for another, distance learning has been accelerated to reach the adolescent girls striving to stay in school.
Covid responses weren’t the only items on the agenda. They heard from Mentor Brigitte Dzogbenuku about her own leadership journey and why she had the courage to take center stage on the political scene in Ghana.
The Fellows also bonded. Each Fellow now has an “accountability buddy” – another Fellow who will do what so many of us have benefitted from in our personal and professional lives: ask the tough questions and stick with us.
During our meeting, the conversation came around to the importance of access to resources for their community programs. Resources include training on program operational skills, and the provision of micro-grants, which loom large for the Fellows. With the support of the Empowered to Educate leadership, and the generous support of our donors, the next six months will see the expansion of their grassroots programs. Fellows will be invited to submit their program proposals--it will be an exciting time.
As always, we will keep you up to date on their exciting accomplishments! We continue to be deeply grateful for your interest and your support.
Kind regards,
The Empowered to Educate Team
