GLOBAL GIVING Q3 REPORT Cece Yara Child Advocacy Centre Trains Over 500 Participants on Child Safeguarding at Teach for Nigeria Pre-Service Institute Cece Yara Child Advocacy Centre was invited to train the prospective fellows and school leaders at the Teach for Nigeria residential Pre-Service Training Institute. The prospective fellows were rigorously trained by our team of experts on different steps to safeguarding and protecting children. Over 500 participants present at the training were equipped with adequate knowledge of recognizing signs of abuse in children and what to do when a case of abuse has been identified. Different case studies concerning abuse were discussed amongst facilitators and participants making the session lively and engaging. Overall, the participants were equipped with the knowledge and resources they needed to become effective child advocates. Child Protection Training for Teachers and Educators The Cece Yara Child Advocacy Centre implemented the Child Protection Training for Teachers and Educators project. This training sessions were carried out across Lagos State and Abuja reaching a total of over 550 educators. The workshop focused on equipping teachers and educators with the skills and knowledge required to prevent, recognize and respond to cases of child sexual abuse within their school environment. Knowing fully well that child sexual abuse can occur anywhere, we have priortised equipping those who work closely with children. Teachers play a crucial role in children’s lives, and by providing them with the right resources, we can help prevent sexual abuse and mitigate the associated trauma. Cece Yara Facilitates Educational Visit to Lagos Police Commissioner for Year 10 Students As part of our efforts to amplifying children’s voices, the Cece Yara Child Advocacy Center organized an educational field visit for Year 10 students of the Grange School, Lagos, to the office of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police,Honourable Adegoke Mustapha Fayoade. The visit aimed to educate the students about the role of law enforcement in safeguarding children’s rights and to foster stronger collaboration between the police and the community. During a lively question-and-answer session with the commissioner, the students gained valuable insights into law enforcement’s role in child protection. Additionally, the students were taken on tour of the police Command facilities to enable them gain a broader understanding of the law enforcement system. Cece Yara Trains Special Needs Children on Body Boundaries and Child Protection Knowing fully well that child sexual abuse is more exacerbated with children living with disabilities, the Cece Yara Child Advocacy Center visited JKS Special Needs School to train children with disabilities on body boundaries, preventing child sexual abuse, and case reporting. Meaningful time was spent in engaging 25 children on establishing body boundaries, knowing their private parts, case reporting and the concept of a trusted adult. At Cece Yara, we are committed to protecting every child, regardless of ability, and customizing our curriculum to meet the unique needs of each child, ensuring no one is left behind in our mission for child safety. Cece Yara Partners with Corona Schools Trust Council to Train over 500 teaching and non-teaching Staff on Child Protection In commemoration of its 70th anniversary, the Corona Schools Trust Council partnered with the Ceceyara child advocacy Centre to retrain over 500 teaching and non-teaching staff of the Corona group of schools all Corona Schools. This training equipped staff with the necessary knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize signs of abuse, and, most importantly, respond appropriately to disclosures of child sexual abuse. Through this initiative, the Corona group of schools Schools continue to ensure a safe environment where children can grow and thrive without fear, in alignment with the Child Rights Convention, the Nigerian Child Rights Act, and the Lagos State Child Protection Policy. Empowering the Next Generation: Cece Yara Provides Hands-On Training for Over 15 Interns Our organization has proudly served as a training ground for over 15 interns from various schools, offering them invaluable hands-on experience in the field of child advocacy. Through their time with us, these interns have not only engaged in on-the-ground work but also participated in strategic sessions where their fresh, young ideas have contributed to our initiatives. We have also focused on helping them sharpen their presentation and research skills, which has led to positive feedback from their schools. At Cece Yara, we are committed to fostering the development of future leaders in child protection. Supporting Survivors: Therapy and Justice for Child Sexual Abuse Victims At Cece Yara, our commitment to survivors of child sexual abuse extends beyond prevention. We continue to support survivors of child sexual abuse by providing therapy to help them heal and get adjusted to living a normal post abusive life. This quarter, we have provided shelter for six new survivours who were exposed to abuse, ensuring their safety and well-being. Additionally, we remain relentless in seeking justice, actively pursuing legal action on behalf of survivors. By instituting multiple cases in court, we strive to ensure that those responsible are held accountable, offering survivors a sense of closure and justice. Raising Awareness: Cece Yara’s Adult Awareness Program on Child Sexual Abuse Through our Adult Awareness programs, Cece Yara has been actively engaging communities, religious institutions, and markets to train adults on recognizing and preventing child sexual abuse. In the reporting period, we have successfully reached over 2500 individuals, empowering them with the knowledge to safeguard children. Some of the places and events we have been to include Testimony Chapel, Bannex and Emab Plaza, Jewels and Winning Women Conference etc. The feedback has been positive, with participants pledging to stand against child sexual abuse in their communities. Some have even volunteered to be vigilant protectors, reinforcing our collective mission to create a safer environment for all children. Safe Kids Awareness and Prevention Program As part of our commitment to child protection, Cece Yara still implements the Safe Kids Awareness and Prevention Program in schools across various communities. Our program equips students with the knowledge and tools needed to recognize and prevent child sexual abuse. Cece Yara Partners with DLA Piper Africa Cece Yara partnered with DLA Piper Africa for its pro bono week to provide legal education to teenage girls on sexual and domestic violence. Our team of experts educated the students at Girls Academy School, Lagos Island, on sexual and domestic violence in Nigeria. They were enlightened on the legal aspects of sexual and domestic violence such as their legal rights and remedies and how to access care in the case of an abuse.
