Cece Yara’s GlobalGiving Report for January-March 2025 – Community Empowerment aimed at ensuring Child Protection
The Cece Yara team with the approval of the Abuja Ministry Power Area Council (AMAC) branded 3 Primary Health Care Centers(PHCs) in some local government areas in Abuja including Jahi, Mabushi and Gwagwalada with our IEC materials (posters, banners, flyers etc.) with the aim of communicating messages to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) citizenry of Cece Yara’s best practices of professional service response to child sexual abuse as part of our over-all strategy to implement multi-media advocacy in reducing the incidence of CSA. An estimated number of 6,000 citizens who patronize the PHCs were reached
The branding of the PHCs, there is increased visibility of Cece Yara’s one-stop response of services giving life –saving information to the citizens, giving more information about community resources available to survivors of child sexual abuse and their non-offending families and attracting various audiences to respond responsible to the incidence of child sexual abuse including case reporting, medical, legal, psycho-social, forensic interview and increased awareness.
2. Ensuring Safeguarding Child Protection in Schools
The Cece Yara team participated in the symposium hosted by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), which focused on understanding and safeguarding child protection policy. The symposium brought together key stakeholders including teachers and counsellors for schools across Lagos. The Cece Yara team facilitated a session in the symposium on the best practices for handling disclosures from Children and establishing referral pathways for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence. 326 public school educators were empowered during the training.
3.Creative Arts Workshop for Teenagers
The Cece Yara Team launched its high skilled volunteer engagement programme in partnership with its international volunteers by organizing a six-weeks creative arts workshop with the theme “Journey to Healing, Growth and Self-expression”. The workshop created safe spaces for children to express themselves creatively through dance therapy, healing exercises, personal development session etc. The participants also gained vital knowledge and tools for personal empowerment. 43 teenage girls were reached through the workshop
4. Cece Yara Live on NTA Lagos Channel
We featured on NTA Lagos Channel 10 on the 20th of February, 2025 to discuss “The Effect of Ego over a child’s well-being’. The Interview addressed the impact of ego on pedophiles’ strategy in grooming children into sexual activities with impunity. It also addressed the prevention and response to the psychological and emotional impairment of children sexually abused and at risk in a world increasingly influenced by societal expectations of self-image, and external pressures. The event also highlighted Cece Yara’s free psycho-social support to survivours and their non-offending families. Ten million Lagos state citizens and its environs were reached with the programme.

5. NTA’s Sunday Live Show
Cece Yara team was a guest on the 'Sunday Show' on NTA Lagos Channel 103 on the 26th of January, 2025 to discuss “Collective Response to Child Protection from Sexual Abuse”. The interview highlighted the urgent need for community involvement in safeguarding children. We emphasized raising awareness, educating children about their rights, supporting survivors, and strengthening legal systems to hold perpetrators accountable. 10,000,000 people were reached through the live broadcast on NTA.

6. Instagram live with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to discuss the realities of Child Domestic Workers (CDW)
We held an Instagram live with the Lagos State Zonal commander of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) Mrs. Comfort Agboko to shed light on the plight of Child Domestic Workers and Child Trafficking in Nigeria. The Instagram Live is an outcome of our partnership with the Freedom Fund organization aimed at sensitizing the public on the reality of child domestic work (CDW) and child trafficking in Nigeria. The conversation aimed to move the public from vague notions to a clearer understanding of the issue of CDW and child trafficking in Nigeria. Over 24,000 viewers were reached on our IG page.
7. Educational Field Trip by Sanctum Startup College
We welcomed students from Sanctum Start up College for an educational field trip. The purpose of the trip was to enhance the students' learning experiences by providing them with a hands-on educational opportunity outside the classroom on the child protection operations of the Cece Yara Child Advocacy Centre.The trip significantly enhanced the students' understanding on the prevention and response to child sexual abuse. They interacted with our team and international volunteers which escalated into us gleaning mentees among them.
8. Deputy British High Commissioner’s Roundtable of NGOs on SGBV Prevention
In celebration of THE International Women’s Day, we were invited to participate in the DBHC’s roundtable of NGOs hosted by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) UK in collaboration with the Nigeria National Assembly. This vital gathering fostered crucial dialogue between members of the UK and Nigerian parliaments, alongside key organisations, focusing on effective policies and practical insights to combat gender-based violence. The roundtable provided a valuable platform for sharing experiences and exploring how parliamentarians can strengthen their support for the essential work of NGOs and CSOs in addressing GBV.
9. X (Formerly known as Twitter) live chat with the Public Police Relations Officer (PPRO), Lagos State Police Command
We held a live X chat to take a deeper dive on the topic “The plight of Child Domestic Workers” with the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Nigerian Police Lagos State Police Command, CSP. Benjamin Hundeyin. The chat was sponsored by Freedom Fund to shed light on the challenges faced by child domestic workers and reinforce the commitment of the police to the prevention and response to CDW.
