COVID lockdowns have been particulary hard for children who would normally be fed at their pre-schools. HOPE Africa has reached out to the pre-schools that we support with the special covid relief funds.
Nomonde Pre-school in Langa really stands out as a beacon of hope in an otherwise dreary landscape filled with rows upon rows of zinc and iron houses, hostels, filthy streets with little prospect of a bright future. The preschool was started in the 1985 for mostly single parents from the nearby hostels to leave their children while they look for employment or continue with their studies. At the time there were no informal dwellings in the area – these were built after 1994 when people from rural areas came to big towns to look for better opportunities.
With the assistance of our generous donors the Centre was beautified to give children a colourful, well-equipped Centre wherein they could thrive and forget about the hardships faced in townships.
HOPE Africa walks alongside the pre-school for a number of years, bringing food relief, toys, clothing, educational equipment and joy to the children’s’ hearts.
