Here is a story from one of our recent training sessions:
One woman stood up and shared the reason why we reach out to Churches, Schools and Health Clinics. A few years ago she took her son with an intellectual disability to a local health clinic. Because her child had an intellectual disability the health situation was concerning. She shared at the clinic she was having a hard time raising her son. The clinic was aware of a Special Hope Network in their compound and encouraged her to go to see Special Hope. The next opportunity she had she came to the Kaunda Square Community Care Center with SHN. This woman and her son were able to join and start attending. Through their time at the CCC the son learned great skills and development, she got amazing encouragement and now her son is a capable person within the family. She has seen the effects that SHN had with her and has with others. Now she has come to train and learn how to advocate for others in her community like the clinic did years ago. A full circle view of how our Community Outreach Team impacts the culture.
We are so proud of the 64 Disability Advocates who graduated last week in Kaunda Square! We are excited to see how they use their new skills and knowledge to transform their communities!
