Beautiful Healthcare Spaces & Pampered Experiences!

Beautiful paediatric healthcare spaces and pampering is what the last few months have all been about at Footprints 4 Sam!

Footprints 4 Sam has again been laying down Footprints of hope and dignity not just at Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital (RMMCH), but also across some of the other hospitals we support.  This past December we decided to share the love over Christmas and spoil a few other extra state hospitals too!

December 2023 also saw us host our annual Footprints 4 Sam Spa Day of pampering for the health professionals at RMMCH and it was smiles all around.  Many of these incredible human beings have never been treated to a massage, pedicure or manicure and the fact that Footprints 4 Sam takes time to celebrate them and their hard work each year is hugely appreciated - (The laughter and smiling as they waited for their turn in the rather long queues was heartwarming, as we strove to spoil as many health professionals as we could in one day!).   Each year we aim to show the healthcare team, especially the nurses, that they matter and that their work matters.  The focus of our Spa Days is also to highlight the importance of self-care and some “spoil” time for health professionals, something so essential when maintaining their emotional well-being in the high stress environment of caring for sick children and families.

We also pampered patient families by providing food buckets over the Christmas period to ensure that they had something special to take home.  Three key hospitals were beneficiaries of these buckets namely Rahima Moosa (of course!) and Queen Nandi Regional Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal and Dr Josef Dadoo Hospital in Krugersdorp.  It was smiles all around, as the healthcare teams were able to include our food buckets and gift cards as a special gift in their various Christmas events.

We are also very proud to be able to report that since our last report in November 2023 we have also upgraded the Paediatric Outpatient Department (POPD) at Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital.  What started out as a “simple paint project” in December ended up being more of a renovation project.  However after more than two months of sweat and tears we have made the POPD corridors, patient and doctors rooms, examination areas, changing room and toilets look amazing.  We also brought in a specialist cleaning team from Impact Cleaning to deep-clean the department and to strip and seal the floors until they shone like a mirror.  Sam’s Angels from our Sam’s Angels School Programme also got involved to paint one of the patient areas bringing colour and cheer into a paediatric room that had been old and drab.  These youngsters also got to spend their holidays in the hospital doing good across the paediatric wards.  Together they added another 144 community hours to our Sam’s Angel Hours tally.

The POPD is now clean and beautiful and we are now heading into the second phase of this project to make the department bright and cheerful with some fun signage and decorative play elements on the walls – So watch this space!  This vital Paediatric Outpatient Department treats 60 to 80 paediatric patients from the community each day and it is therefore key to maintaining the well-being of many young lives.

As you can see it has yet again been a busy few months, no wonder I am feeling so tired as I write this report.  As always, we could not do this life changing work without you!!

Thank you for keeping our hands and imaginations busy and for giving us the ability through your generosity to transform these sacred spaces and pamper the healthcare teams while doing so!
