I've got exciting news, really exciting news! Thanks to your help and the help of many others, next month we will be breaking ground on the newest phase of our project!
Beginning in September, a construction team will be on-site building out two critical projects on our campus:
The first project involves improvements to our water supply system and is critical to maintaining care for the animals should a disaster strike our community. When completed, we will be able to maintain ten or more days of water on-site should we experience an earthquake or other major disaster that impacts our community's electrical infrastructure.
The second project is critical to our work to help people and pets who are struggling financially in our community. There are an estimated 16,000 households with pets in Lane County who are at or below poverty level. We all know how important pets are in our lives - they give us joy, they give us companionship, and they give us a purpose in life. Financial struggles should not result in the loss of a companion animal. For that reason, we have been operating a Pet Food and Supply Pantry for years. And this year, with the construction of a new temperature-controlled storage facility, we are going to expand our capacity to help even more people and pets!
This new building will enable us to receive and store shipments of pet food and supplies for the animals we care for as well as for people and pets who are struggling financially. We will now be able to receive large quantities of food and supplies throughout the year and even work with other non-profits in Lane County to distribute the pet food where it's needed most.
You've helped Greenhill get to this moment. Thank you!
Please spread the word about the work that we are doing. And please consider on-going support for this project and for the daily care of the animals.
I welcome any questions and invite you to come visit the shelter.
Sincerely,
Cary Lieberman
