After the lockdown was partially lifted and diving activities were allowed to resume again, we received a report from the local community about the ghost trawler net stuck in the reefs on Tulai Island, off Tioman Island in Malaysia.
Yesterday, the ghost trawler net removal and clean-up was done with Kementerian Alam Sekitar Dan Air (Ministry of Environment and Water), Jabatan Perikanan Malaysia (Department of Fisheries), Reef Check Malaysia, and Blue Bubbles Scuba Training Centre. The ghost trawler net was successfully brought out yesterday. Unfortunately, the ghost trawler net has ruined part of the reef in the area.
Thank you to those who have reported to us and thank you to all who are involved in the ghost trawler net cleaning programme.
