We are so close to finishing our cafeteria and kitchen that I can almost smell the fresh food now!
It is imperative that we work together to meet this goal now. In Nicaragua we are surrounded by lush and fertile lands, but none of that matters without a farm to table program for our children! They are the ones that need to stay healthy to learn and grow. We may have the ability to plant and harvest our own food but that food needs to make it on to the plates of our little ones.
Our unique program, known as Growing Adelante, incorporates culinary arts with permaculture and practical life skills. It also incorporates important academic subjects such as math and science. Our kitchen as our project explains, will also serve as a learning kitchen for our students. We make snack time and lunch a part of school with social studies and recess all balled into one.
With our growing student body, the new kitchen ought to be finished as soon as possible so that we have the space to prepare enough food to feed everyone and do it safely. Our space is so tiny that the cook has nearly no space to move around and even has to cook outside sometimes (well a BBQ calls for that as well!).
This new kitchen and cafeteria will bring life to the food program and connect our agricultural progrm directly with our snacks and school lunches. In order to ensure that our students continue to eat healthy and organic options at school, we must ensure the success of this program.
We have nearly finished the cafeteria and the kitchen but another $23k is still needed to complete the buildings and furnish them. Our school year begins in January 2021 when we hope everyone is back in person receiving classes. By then we need this project to be complete but we can't do it all by ourselves. We need the support of our donors There is no greater gift than making sure children are fed well. Help us ensure healthy minds and bodies at Escuela Adelante! If you have given before to this project, now is the time to give again. Won't you help us help our community and school?
