Plant Trees in Cambodian Community Forests

Hello friends,

In the last few months, Cambodia has experienced an increase in COVID-19 cases, which has disrupted many aspects of our lives. Nevertheless, we managed to safely coordinate a community tree planting event in July. Participants wore masks and followed safety protocols.

With trees donated by JSC, volunteers from local forest communities (Prey Lang Community Network, Boeung Thom Conservation Community, and Prey Kbal Khla Conservation Community) and partner organizations (EHE and Licadho) planted 2,500 seedlings. They planted the trees around the Boueng Thom lake and in the Kbal Khlaa community forest to replace seedlings that didn’t survive from previous plantings. Participants also shared about the effects of climate change on their lives. 

We have an update on our collaboration with the monk community forest. Recently, the lead monk stepped down from the leadership position. We are in communication with this group to discuss the future of our project. In the meantime, we will continue to organize other tree plantings as long as it is safe to do so.
