Greetings Friends!
Unfortunately, COVID-19 has come back around and is affecting nearly all aspects of life and work in Cambodia. We are currently under many restrictions: travel between provinces is forbidden, nightly curfews are in place, and some people are restricted to their homes. This means work as usual is not at all possible.
Additionally, ethnic minority communities and non-governmental organizations have been blocked from accessing public and community-owned forests. Community members who volunteer to protect the forests cannot enter. Deforestation continues.
The good news is that the remaining trees continue to grow and we plan for the future. We hope that later this year or in 2022, we will be able to resume our activities and plant more trees. In the meantime, we continue to support these forest communities in whatever way we can. We regularly talk with them via phone or online to touch base.
Please keep the forests and their Cambodian guardians in your thoughts.
Thankfully,
The Peace Bridges Team
