Primary Education in Ghana

PAAJAF school is which is PAAJAF Educational Institute (PEI) - our scholarship school - a multi-year project run with the Literacy Programme asanumbrella programme of PEI which provides Family Learning (Adult Education), After-school Programme, Library and IT training. The school has two streams of learning:

• For Children
• For Adults

For Children –PEI endeavors to establish aneducational facility that will create an enabling environment in which all children ages 6 months to 15 years can develop their full potential. The project includes a boarding house facility, recreational facilities and good moral training to equip all its students for life. It is the aim of this project to establish a University in the future.

For Adults – the purpose of setting up Family Learning Classes (adult literacy classes) is totackle the high level of adult illiteracy that traps families in extreme poverty. Our findings indicate that Gbawe has insufficient number of schools and to add to it, poverty prevents a significant number of people from completing their education. The resulting lack of education and skills makes it difficult for individuals to secure employment. PAAJAF has decided in this way to support the community to build adult capacity.

We are thankful to our partner GlobalGiving and Church of Our Saviour in Netherlands – an English Speaking Church that has sponsored the pre-school project. The achievements of this project up to date, were marvelous and credit goes to all our diverse donors. We are proud to announce that we are now have 80 students, the school was supporting 64 children at January 1, 2016, the student population as at January 1, 2015 was 20 students. Of the current student population, 20 students are receiving full scholarship and 60 students are receiving partial scholarship.   For Adults, PEI has 9 students currently receiving adult literacy education in English and in Basic Math.

The PEI centre was been rented for 2 years starting in November 2014, and the lease expires in October 2016. We need help to secure the venue at least for another one year or two, while we are working to secure funding to acquire school land to start the school building project.

We have been graced – God is bring us to the close of the year 2015 and to usher us into another impactful year – 2016. I am writing to thank you once again for your support of PAAJAF and the PAAJAF Educational Institute. We are so grateful to have you among our supporters! The project here at Globalgiving you have aided it to be successful and the impact as you see below is your doing.  

As you know, our vision is to create an educational center in our community to provide our children with the opportunity to go to school.
 
We believe in our children and want them to have the opportunity to have an education, and create a secure and happy future for themselves.
 
It has been a busy year with lots of ups and downs of course but we are ending the year in a good position to build on our vision and meet the goals we have set for ourselves in 2016.
 
Here is what we have accomplished this year with your help!
 

• 60 children are now enrolled in the preschool and truly enjoying a day of learning and growing. 
• 9 adults are learning to read or building on their reading ability in our Adult and Family Literacy classes.
• We have two exciting and much-needed programs in the works:
• WorldReader will provide e-readers and a digital library to the school and the Adult and Family Literacy program. For the program to go forward we will need to raise the funds to properly wire and outfit the classrooms.
•  The Linino Organization has so generously funded our school by paying the rent on our building for two years, until October of 2016. It is our hope their offer of computers might be realized as well.
•  We have created a second PAAJAF site to focus on the school at www.peischool.org which was created and funded by two US volunteers. The site is linked to our Global Giving page so that people can easily support the school and our children. A blog will help us keep our supporters up-to-date and reach out to new friends around the world.

 
I hope that as you celebrate Christmas this year you will consider making a gift of ongoing support to PEI and the children we serve. A recurring donation of as little as $10 per month would help us create a more secure financial base for the school. 

With a base of ongoing support in 2016 we can cover our monthly rent, pay our teachers, work to build capacity, launch the e-reader and computer classes for our community, and reach more children through the Preschool and a Primary School.
