Back to School

Kids on Their 1st Day of School
Kids on Their 1st Day of School

It is August, and families throughout Baltimore City are preparing for their kids to go back to school.

Here at the Women's Housing Coalition, our families are prepping too, but for our families, this time of year can be a hardship and a pain point. The average yearly income for a head of household in our program is less than $9,500. After paying 30% of their income to rent, doing their grocery shopping, and buying basic supplies like toilet paper and personal hygiene products; our families don't have much left over to purchase book bags, school clothes, and school supplies.

With your support, we have been able to continue to lessen the monetary burden on our families.

Because of you, we have case managers on staff that work hard to make sure our students are ready for school. Two of our case managers stood in line on one of the hottest days of the summer to get donated book bags and supplies for the kids going to school.

Because of your support, one of our recent high school graduates is heading off to college on a full scholarship with money from WHC towards books and supplies.

Because of you, our children are not only heading to school prepared, but they are also starting school with stories about the awesome summer camp they attended.

Your support makes all of these things possible. You help us provide our families with:

  • case management
  • one-time financial assistance for things like school supplies
  • summer camp
  • and more

Thank you for lessening the burden of back to school time on our families!
