Give 2000 Egyptian Families Affordable Health Care

"1 Minute" can make a difference

World Bank statistics indicate that most Egyptians resort to spending on health services directly from their own pocket, amounting to about 61% of the total expenditures, despite the eligibility of about 60% of Egyptians to government health insurance services, but only a quarter of the eligible group benefits from it due to Lack of confidence in the quality of the services provided or lack of awareness of the covered services and the eligible categories!

In the context of that, we are happy to achieve a new success story that helped save thousands of pounds on a family that was surprised by the disease a few days before the holidays. The story begins when a woman in her fifties fell into a sudden hepatic coma and her daughter resorted to going to a specialized hospital in the vicinity of the residence. To save the life of the woman, only to find herself after two days, demanding to pay about 2000 pounds per day for the unstable condition, even though the patient has a proven job and therefore the right to the health insurance umbrella!

It only took a few minutes to assist the case, during which the necessary steps for the health insurance to bear those costs were reviewed by referring to the steps taken by one of the similar cases. Immediately it was informed of the required paper details and the addresses of the parties to be visited to extract those details and follow up the case after a day to ensure that those procedures are implemented .The case informs us that the health insurance has already issued a decision to bear all expenses for a period of 10 days (renewable) from the date of the case's admission to the hospital, that is, approximately saving about 20,000 pounds on the family because of one piece of information!

“Thank you, I, without you, would not have been able to do all this.” This is the sentence that the patient’s daughter sent us, expressing her gratitude for the information that she benefited from the services of el Nase7 project, and we celebrate that and thank you also for the continuous support that always helps us to reach larger groups and protect more families.

The necessary development of case management systems and the information base and data that we access requires us to continuously update it and in the coming period we are allocating larger budgets to access newer technologies that help us document more information and better manage cases. Your continuous support for the project will help us save the future of dozens of families.

What a wonderful start to 2022! We won the lawsuit

We hope your year started as blissfully and wonderfully as ours. We wanted to celebrate with you, our kind supporter, our highlight of the year so far.

“The patient shall receive regular treatment sessions at a cost of 10,000 EGP fully covered by the social health insurance according to the court ruling.”

In january 2022, we finally were able to read this sentence on the merits of the ruling for the lawsuit our team took for Haneen. A sum up if you didn’t get the chance to know more about this case: Haneen, a 9 years old school girl ,suffering from a rare congenital blood vessel disease, is in need of an expensive interventional radiology procedure every 2 months. Since the insurance coverage for school students refused to cover the full cost of this intervention, her family saw its savings dissipate a month after the other, till they had to sell their house furniture.

After numerous attempts to support her in accessing the services she is entitled to, we decided to file a lawsuit on her behalf, not only to give her access to the medical care she needs, but also to pave the way for many other patients who are denied the services they are in dire need of.

Our team has successfully given her the support and secured her donations for the treatment since March 2021, and the final administrative court verdict for this case was positive in Haneen’s favor. She finally can now have access to the healthcare service she is entitled to. As her family has no fixed income resource, our team’s efforts, with your kind support, made a big difference in providing the administrative as well as the legal support to the family throughout this case management in various ways ; through establishing successful partnerships and grouping the efforts to guarantee the winning of the case. This is our chance to thank the dedicated team of lawyers at the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights for taking on this case and delivering this verdict.

2022 marks Shamseya’s 10th anniversary, we promise to make it one of our most distinguished years full of achievements and support to more families in accessing their entitlements of insurance coverage, affordable healthcare and medical services their families need.

New years wishes and the last hours of our most IMPACTFUL month yet

As we welcome a new year full of hope and ambitious plans, we couldn't let the last hours of 2021 pass without celebrating with you our most impactful month yet.

Thanks to your heart-warming support and generosity, the outreach campaign we launched on December 12th has been keeping our team busy, blessed and bustling. In just 2 weeks, we have supported over 450 families in accessing their entitlements of insurance coverage, affordable healthcare and medical services their families needed: Breadwinning women, school children, retired workers and new-borns to name a few.

In addition, our team has gone one step further in our quest to ensure Egyptians are accessing the healthcare services they are entitled to: Haneen, a 9 years old school girl suffering from a rare congenital blood vessels disease, is in need of an expensive interventional radiology procedure every month. Since the insurance coverage for school students refused to cover the full cost of this intervention, her family saw its savings dissipate a month after the other, till they had to sell their house furniture. After numerous attempts to support her in accessing the services she is entitled to, we decided to file a law suit on her behalf, not only to give her access to the medical care she needs, but also to pave the way for many other patients who are denied the services they are in dire need of.

As we await the final administrative court verdict for this case, we wanted to share with you this excerpt from the state commissioner's report, recommending the court to rule in favor of Haneen:

"...it is established that any denial of the needed medical services to the plaintif constitutes a clear violation of constitutional and legal rights, specially as the medical condition of the patient cannot bear procedural or bureaucratic delays, which the authority seems to be taking a way to renounce from its obligations towards its constituents..."

We will keep you informed with the outcome of the case of Haneen which is expected to unveil in the upcoming months.

2022 comes with new milestones for our project, promising to take our impact to communities and families beyond our current reach. We can't wait to be sharing with you, our kind supporter, what we're planning for throughout 2022.
