Living the DREAM for low-income Grade 6 Students

Plastic bottles have become one of the biggest contributors to pollution in schools and communities. Every day, countless plastic bottles pile up in trash bins or, worse, get thrown away carelessly, harming the environment. At Tagudin National High School, this growing problem was hard to ignore. The school grounds often had scattered bottles, a reminder of how much waste was being generated. The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of TNHS decided it was time to take action. They had already installed a safe drinking water system, but they wanted to go a step further to reduce plastic waste. The question was: how could they encourage students to stop using single-use plastic bottles? The solution came in the form of an initiative called the Flask Project. With the help of Gawad Pangarap Foundation Inc. (GPFI), the PTA launched this program to provide students with reusable tumblers. GPFI donated 60 tumblers to get the project rolling. The goal was simple: to ensure that every student would eventually own a tumbler. But the project didn’t stop there. GPFI made a long-term commitment to donate tumblers to all new scholars at the beginning of every school year. This way, the program could continue, ensuring students always had access to reusable flasks while helping reduce waste. This initiative didn’t just tackle one problem—it addressed three at once. First, it reduced the use of single-use plastic bottles, promoting a cleaner and greener campus. Second, it supported the PTA to sustain their programs. Third, it provided students with safe, reusable flasks, encouraging healthier habits. It was truly a case of hitting three birds with one stone. Small changes like this prove that even the simplest actions can lead to meaningful and transformative results. (Third Laurente Ibay - 12th Grade TNHS)

Christmas is a time for joy, laughter, and sharing, especially for children. While the magic of Santa Claus may be a cherished fantasy, Gawad Pangarap Foundation brought that magic to life this Christmas with our Handog Pamasko event. We distributed 200 spaghetti packs to selected children and families, spreading smiles and a taste of festive cheer. For many children, spaghetti is a treat reserved for special occasions like birthdays, making it a symbol of celebration and happiness. Seeing their faces light up as they received their packs, knowing that they were being thought of during this special time, was truly heartwarming. Handog Pamasko was more than distribution of food, it was a reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in the lives of others.
