Living the DREAM for low-income Grade 6 Students

“Education isn’t solely about academic achievement; it’s a powerful catalyst for poverty reduction, social equality, and holistic national development. The Philippines’ commitment to enhancing its education landscape echoes its aspiration to unlock the potential of every citizen, regardless of their background”  (Trinity University of Asia).

 To most parents, the greatest inheritance they can give to their children is providing them with the needed higher education as a means of alleviating them from their long-standing poverty situation.  

 “While 49% of the wealthiest segment attends higher education, this figure drops to only 17% for the least affluent.” (Philippine Business for Education). It is in this context that Gawad Pangarap Foundation Scholarship Program penetrated 2 Integrated High Schools in the town of Tagudin, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, to give opportunities to 6 under-privileged Grade 7^th students pave the way for pursuing their Dreams!

Gawad Pangarap Leaders treaded the narrow barangay roads in some Barangays of Tagudin, Ilocos Sur to meet with Kindergarteners of Garitan Integrated School, Pudoc Elementary School and Pacac Elementary School. These precious tiny people with Big Dreams were all smiles to receive their coloring papers, crayons, pencils and erasers. When asked what they want to be when they grow big, each one raised their small hands. One young boy stated he wants to be a Police so he can do traffic enforcer in the crowded streets. One said she wants to be a Teacher so she will know everything in the classroom even the answers to the tests. And another one shouted he wants to be a nurse so he can take care of the old people getting sick. What an awesome experience to spent a day with these precious Dreamers full of enthusiasm and fervor.

Since Gawad Pangarap's mission is focused on Education, why not set them up on an early start? So our goal for this year is to support additional 6 Kindergarten Schools in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur with their school supplies.
