South Africa has been fortunate enough to overcome its loadshedding or rolling blackouts issues. As of January 24, 2025, South Africa had been without load shedding for 303 days in a row. This is the longest period without load shedding since 2018. This has put less strain on learners resulting in less demand for solar powered rechargeable LED lamps.
As the country was celebrating this victory, unexpected issues arose in February 2025 leading to the implementation of loadshedding. This then prompts HOPE Africa to start the procurement process for the next batch of LED lamps. Using the funds available, we will source quotations and try to assist as many learners as possible with rechargeable LED lamps. All this work will be in preparation of any unexpected loadshedding announcements.
