Life saving treatment of babies by Donations/Zakat

On a fine evening, when Al-Mustafa's ER was buzzing with the noises of patients and staff, a pregnant woman was rushed to the emergency with preeclampsia (a state of uncontrollable high blood pressure and other complications in pregnancy). The Gynaecologist immediately decided to operate to save the mother and the baby, and the woman was taken to the Gynae OT directly. 

Mr Anjum is a driver, and they were expecting their second baby. With every passing month, his wife's condition was worsening. On the one hand, he was worried for the love of his life and their children; on the other hand, he calculated the sum of money required for the delivery. With a driver's income, their family barely makes it to the end of the month. The time for delivery was nearing, and he was figuring out ways to collect money, that one day, his wife's situation worsened, and they had to take her to the hospital. She needed an immediate C-Section. Anjum saw his empty hands and boldly decided to take his wife to Al-Mustafa's emergency. Things changed afterwards; the mother was taken to OT and safely delivered a pre-term baby. But this was not it; the baby had a meagre birth weight, cyanose (blue baby due to oxygen deficiency), tachypnea (rapid breathing) and low activity. The baby was taken to the NICU, investigations were done, and treatment was provided. After three days of intensive care and efforts by the NICU team, the baby was stable and shifted with the mother into the room. After 24 hours of observation, both mother and the baby were discharged. 

For some, it may be a 3-day story, but for the family, it was a battle of life and death, and Alhamdulillah, it was a win once again. Hats off to these NICU heroes who fight with unseen enemies and save little angels, and hats off to the kind people such as you, who send us their generous support from faraway lands to help save these babies.  

Children are the most incredible and merriest blessing of this world; their angelic gaze and sweet smiles are the sole reason for the happiness of this planet.

One of the most painful sites is seeing the tragedy of a mother helplessly witnessing her child on the verge of life and death and a powerless, tear-eyed father who wants to save his child but does not have enough resources for that. Poverty is one of the significant factors which have led to Pakistan's 3rd position in neonatal mortality rate in the world. 

A baby brings happiness and life to a family, and may Allah never let any parent experience the pain of losing a child. Saving a baby is not just about saving one human life; it keeps a mother from missing a piece of her heart for the rest of her life, rescues a father from being scarred and impacts a whole family in one way or another. 

The majority of infants admitted at Al-Mustafa NICU belong to low-income families. Al-Mustafa Hospital is contributing its best to reduce the mortality rate with its modern equipment and qualified and experienced medical team so far and taking care of various cases in the NICU on standard neonatal care protocols.

Based on the patient's condition, we have classified treatment protocols into the following four levels: 

• Level I: Basic newborn care. Level 1 nursery care for healthy, full-term babies.
• Level II: Advanced newborn care.
• Level III: Subspecialty newborn care. 
• Level IV: The highest level of neonatal care.

This past quarter our team of NICU provided successful treatment to 172 babies, and your donations helped us keep going. The rest of the details of the past five months are given below:
