Recently, 29 students from the new cohort of WEP’s Leadership Academy programs in Madurai and Ramanathapuram attended a two-day residential training program - titled "My Mind, Body & Spirit - to fulfill their requirements for the  Academy's "Foundations" Certificate.  The Certificate is part of the WEP framework which is adapted by each Academy Director to fit the needs and resources of her own local community.

At a retreat center in the forested hills outside of the city, WEP students were able to step out of their daily routines and participate in sessions which included: Nutrition and Wellness, Emotional Intelligence, Mindfulness, Happiness and Positive Psychology, Self-Awareness, Analyzing Potential, Stress Management, Positive Thinking, and Work-Life Integration as well as Personal Safety and Self-Defense.

Students actively engaged in the "Body Positive Affirmations" game, where they jotted down positive affirmations on small cards or sticky notes, and placed them in prominent locations as daily reminders of self-love and acceptance. They explored core elements of mindfulness, including non-judgment, present-moment awareness, and acceptance, and learned about the components of positive psychology, including resilience, optimism, and gratitude, and the significance of actively developing them.

The WEP students “demonstrated a remarkable level of openness, curiosity, activity, politeness, creativity, cooperation, and high expression" according to program facilitators. Students left the workshops with practical skills for increasing self-awareness, developing meaningful relationships, and growing personally. They also gained valuable insights into the significance of establishing boundaries between academic and personal life, and strategies to manage expectations from both academic and social environments.
