We are pleased and excited that our new pilot initiative to provide kindergartens in the villages is finally under way. The Village Development Committee in Abu Nahla, the first village selected for the pilot, has signed the agreement indicating its commitment to the project. More importantly they have demonstrated their enthusiasm by beginning to collect local materials for the project - this is a very good sign. As part of the agreement the community will provide all local materials (clay, sand, gravel, water, etc.) required as well as all the unskilled labour as the community contribution. We see this as essential to the community taking ownership of the project and accepting responsibility for sustaining the project. We are also very pleased that the community has also begun work on preparing the site. This clearly indicates their commitment to the project and their desire to see a kindergarten in their village. On our part our Project staff have begun to order the other materials required for the construction of the kindergarten and to source the necessary skilled labour.
