JOY is a kindergartener playing the violin.

Dear Friends,

We are bursting with JOY!  With your support, here's what we have accomplished in the last few months.

• JOY first grade violinists played their first non-school public perfornance at the Newberg noon Rotary. Not a dry eye in the audience, seeing the focus and discupline of these young musicians.
• 35 of the 100 first graders signed up to continue the JOY program in second grade's after school program.
• Thanks to community support and foundation grants, JOY has hired a Program  Coordinator, a Site Director, and vioin, viola, and cello teaching artists.

Now we're getting ready for the new school year, with a new crop of violinists in the kindergarten and first grades, and ensemble instruction starting in second grade.

To give you an idea of the impact of the JOY program, here's a comment from one of the parents of a JOY student:

"I am amazed and delighted at the discipline and musicianship I see being developed in my student because of her participation in the JOY program. I love the pride she has in a job well done and how she is learning to work with others in something that is bigger than herself. Thank you YES for the opportunities you are giving Edwards students."
