Help the Franciscan Convent and people in Beirut

At the beginning of this month we commemorated the third anniversary of the terrible explosion that occured in Beirut port in August 2020.

Since then nothing has changed, on the contrary the situation keeps getting worse. At least 10% of the population has left the country in the last two years due to the economic crisis, many more would like to flee but don't have the opportunity to.

There are a few others instead like Fadi, Stephanie and Georgina that had the opportunity to leave, but decided to remain to work tirelessly for the future of Lebanon!

Today more than ever, Lebanon needs our commitment to rebuild and create a future of hope in the country. Your support will allow us to share more stories like those of Fadi and Stephanie.

Days in Lebanon are now punctuated by the daily collapse of the value of the Lebanese lira, which has less and less value.

Most of the public schools in Lebanon have never reopened; among the main reasons for this closure is the inability of teachers to travel to their workplaces, both because of the lack of fuel and the high cost of transportation.

In fact, the cost of transportation for a month would correspond to an average salary, and many were faced with an absurd decision: Go to work or eat. At present, it is not physically sustainable to choose both.

There is no hope for future recovery as the state is paralyzed and unable (or unwilling) to intervene. Any reform proposals are blocked and in most cases those who should be making decisions prefer silence and indifference. 

Nothing has changed since the tremendous explosion at the port of Beirut in 2020, and indeed the situation is getting progressively worse.

That is why our intervention continues to be and is increasingly important in this battered and wounded country.

In addition to distributions of food, basic necessities and medicines, we have increased visits to homes and assistance to families reduced to poverty.

Our action, however, is not only characterized by emergency interventions, but in recent months we have been aiming more and more at sustainable projects:

- Psychological support and school reintegration
- Health care through the dispensary in Tripoli. In addition, we are working toward the establishment of a second medical dispensary in Beirut.
- Job placement activities
- Support activities for entrepreneurs

It is really important to continue supporting Lebanon and never lose hope even if everything says otherwise!
