Taking Shape

By Rebecca Stowell | Seed of Hope Board Member

Jobs for over 12 people from the community!
Jobs for over 12 people from the community!

Since our first fundraising campaign here on GlobalGiving we have been able to move forward on construction of the education center with confidence.  With your generous funds we have been able to get all the commercial grade rebar needed, all the concrete needed to pour pillars, beams, the second floor and pay salaries for 12 full time local workers and part-time salaries for two of our older students.

Lawpa, our closest indiginous partner, is the general contractor and has utilized resources in the vicinity such as cutting bamboo, with permission from the forest service, in order to create supports for the upper floor.  We love how they use the local natural resources for construction.

A new road was made around the building in order to get the heavy equipment in.  The property was buzzing with the sound of heavy equipment and machinery and the dorm boys loved sitting at a safe distance to watch all the activity.

We have gotten far and have used the funds donated to get this far and pay the workers in full. We love how Lawpa, the GC of the project and founder of the dorm, shops for the best deal and seeks out how to save a dollar where he can.   We will now wait to receive more funds before we move forward on the project.

The staff has started dreaming about the use of the building when it is finished.  We overhear talk about when the art room is done and how nice it will be to have a place to do projects, how it will be great to have a quiet place for kids to do homework and staff to tutor them and to have a quiet, clean place for students to get nursing care when they are not feeling well.

Thank you for the part you have had and are playing in this exciting project to help students receive a better education!
