Thank you for following along with our progress in the area of human rights for Thai children.
Here are the stats for 2024:
- We worked on 21 cases
- We worked in 9 Districts: Mae fah Luang, Chiang Dao, Fang, Mae Suay, Wiang Hang, Mae Sot, San Sai, Mae Rim, mae Wang,
- 1 child got her Thai citizenship card
- 1 child got his permanent residency card
Most regular cases take 3-5 years to complete due to the many levels of beaurocracy here, so it is a lot of output for not a lot of return year to year. In 2025, we will continue to work on our 19 remaining cases and have one new client already. Each time we go to the district office, we are approached by new families needing assistance with their cases.
Many of our cases are children born in Thailand to parents who do not have Thai citizenship. For these cases, we must wait for them to graduate from university before they can apply for citizenship. Therefore, while we have a high number of cases on our roster, it may be over a decade before we see these cases come to a close. In the meantime, we encourage the children to stay in school, work hard to create a good life for themselves and we keep up on any new developments in the law that may allow some to apply for citizenship earlier.
Thank you for your support in this area! We hope you have a wonderful 2025.
