Stepping It Up On The Ground

By Tinka Shapiro | Project Leader

Launch Day of the Education Trucks
Launch Day of the Education Trucks

TEARS Animal Rescue has continued the work on the ground in Vrygrond with enthusiasm and innovation.

We are pleased to announce that, through sponsorship from the Dov, Edie and Cicely Blumberg Foundation, TEARS has stepped the provision of on-the-ground veterinary services up a notch in Vrygrond.  Two identical, state-of-the-art, mobile clinic and education trucks have been outfitted with two consultation rooms each, one for dogs and one for cats.  In addition, there is an externally mounted TV screen and 20 chairs in each truck for education and information sessions to be held next to the trucks.

These trucks are game-changers as they allow for the provision of veterinary services to the Vrygrond community in a safe environment for both people and animals. Dogs and cats that need to be transported will then be taken to the TEARS Veterinary Hospital in specially designed, built-in cages.

The bi-monthly Pet Clinics have continued to provide primary veterinary services for dogs and cats from loving families.  The more serious cases are treated at the TEARS Veterinary Hospital and returned home as soon as possible.

Fundraising is ongoing for the medical equipment and resources needed for each truck, though equipment from the veterinary hospital is currently borrowed for the trucks on each visit to Vrygrond.

Vrygrond Pet Clinics continue the work of vaccinating, sterilising and providing primary healthcare to animals in need.  This includes deworming and providing tick and flea treatment.
