GLOBALGIVING REPORT – FEBRUARY 2021

HELP ALLEVIATE MISERY FOR ANIMALS IN CAPE TOWN

Dear Animal Lovers and Supporters of TEARS on the GlobalGiving Platform

 YOUR SUPPORT IS SO VALUED

Given the overwhelming magnitude of the companion animal overpopulation situation in Vrygrond (Capricorn) and surrounding settlements, and the challenges we face, in reaching out and helping as many animals as we can, we want you to know just how much we value your contributions and support.   Knowing that you care and are helping us to make a difference in the lives of the vulnerable communities and their pets, means so much to us, and enables us to continue with our work, often in very difficult and heart-breaking circumstances.

It is thanks to the kind-heartedness of our donors that we are able to assist the companion animals in these impoverished areas; without your help, this could not be accomplished.  The photos which I am sharing as part of this report will bear testimony as to just how meaningful your donations are – happy, healthy pets and happy owners!  This is the outcome we want for every animal, as we strive to end pet homelessness, cruelty and neglect.

Included in our Goals for 2021, is our objective to greatly increase our impact in the vulnerable communities we serve, providing enhanced Mobile Clinic, Sterilisation and Veterinary Services, as well as rolling out a Humane Education Programme.   Our targets have been increased substantially and we will strive to vaccinate 3 600 animals, and sterilise 3 600 (2 400 dogs and 1 200 cats).  This excludes feral cats, of which there are many in the impoverished areas (free roaming community cats), and our sterilisation target has been set at 3 840.  While these figures cover all the areas we serve, a fair percentage will include Vrygrond (Capricorn).

As part of our strategy, we have approached possible sponsors to fund the establishment of a second, fully equipped surgery on our premises, to cater for the greater number of animals we envisage treating and sterilising.  Furthermore, we are also seeking sponsorship for two new mobile clinic vans, which will be specially fitted out with cages and equipment.  Our mobile clinic vans represent a vital link between the communities we serve and our veterinary clinic on our premises, transporting ill and injured animals, as well as those requiring sterilisation.  Through these enhanced services, we intend making a greater positive impact on the lives of companion animals and their owners.

Let’s hope that we have seen the worst of this devastating global pandemic, and that in 2021, life can attain a sense of normality.  We extend our best wishes to you and your loved ones, and hope that you will all be safe; take care.

Warm regards and sincere gratitude
