May 2020, how Covid19 has affected Hogar Santa Ana

Hello Friends of the Hogar Santa Ana:

Our ladies started this year full of energy, with a spa afternoon donated by volunteer Ionica Dumont and her group. The ladies had a great time and learnt a lot about how to take care of their skin. Ionica had a lovely experience, she approves of our mentioning it to you and is happy to share it. She welcomes any questions, and can be contacted at 54 11 40855950.

On March 17th, the unexpected hit us. Covid 19 started spreading in Argentina and it has caused many difficulties. Our population is at the top of the list riskwise, so we have had to implement many changes.

Half of our workers are staying home due to preexisting disease or being over 60, so the day to day is intense. We have divided the remaining people into two teams, and thankfully, we are being assisted by 4 cooks and assistant cooks from the schools that belong to the same NGO. Since children are staying home, they were not working, so they are taking 2 week turns to cook for our elderly ladies.

Lincoln community college has helped us by donating funds to buy an infrared thermometer, and some facemasks that were essential to protect our ladies. Thank you!!

It is of the utmost importance to minimize outings, and the government of Buenos Aires has started a volunteer program where young people assist people over 65 in their personal needs so that they do not need to leave the home. This works very well and we are very greatful.

Our fundraising is in deep trouble since we cannot do our vintage sales or charity dinners. So if you can , please help us!

Sincerely,

María Reynolds
