E.R.I.C. vs CANCER / SPEAK UP SCHOOL PROGRAM

Celebration of the Spirit of the Game.

Organized by the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) in partnership with the charitable Organization Early Recognition Is Critical (E.R.I.C.), International Spirit of the Game Day encourages Ultimate communities around the world to celebrate and reflect on Spirit of the Game by hosting events, clinics and activities where players can have fun, and discuss and demonstrate good spirit.

For the annual International Spirit of the Game Day celebrations. More than 500 activities from at least 34 countries were held across the world on December 7 in honor of Spirit of the Game, a core and guiding element of the sports of Ultimate and Guts. Spirit of the Game is the mindful behavior practiced by players worldwide in a mutual effort to protect the basic joy of play. It makes self-officiation possible, encourages personal responsibility, and encompasses attitudes and skills such as good knowledge of the rules, fair-mindedness, safe play, clear and calm communication, and a positive and respectful attitude.

Participants were encouraged to share their love of Spirit of the Game on social media by posting about their events or sharing artwork on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Submissions came in the form of videos, articles, drawings, and more. More than 20 international vendors partnered with WFDF & ERIC to offer merchandise as part of the festivities.

Ultimate School Program

In Venezuela the Ultimate School Program was implemented in the Agustín Codazzi High School in the city of Maracay, the beneficiaries were two hundred and fifty students in the 1st year of high school, thus validating our method of teaching in cancer prevention education using sports of Ultimate Frisbee and the Spirit of the Game as a tool. Achievements:

• Average of two hundred and fifty students was 18 points, they achieved an excellent grade in this way we guarantee that the E.R.I.C. message It is understood.

• The Ultimate Kit (30 Frisbee and 16 Cones) was donated to the Agustin Codazzi High School for the development of the Ultimate Frisbee discipline as an alternative sport to the national educational curriculum.

• The teaching method of the Ultimate School program contemplates the accompaniment of the Physical Education Teacher during the quarter of classes, so it is necessary to develop the 5 initial classes of Ultimate Frisbee, Exhibitions on: Cancer, Healthy Habits and Ultimate Frisbee. Where students exhibit on a mind map as an active lifestyle can help us overcome cancer, we end the subject with an Ultimate school competition, experiencing a memorable experience of healthy sports fun that integrates the entire student community.

• Initial coach training of Ultimate addressed to the Physical Education Teachers of the Schools: San José, El Araguaney, Aragua Educational Institute, Colegio La Concepción and the C.E.D.I. These schools will begin the process of including the Ultimate Frisbee discipline as a new alternative sport in the national educational curriculum.

Activities To Develop:

• Developing the Ultimate School Program in schools La Conception, C.E.D.I for the first quarter of 2020.

• Train the Ultimate Frisbee clubs of the University Central of Venezuela and Simón Bolívar University so that they can replicate the Habla Claro Tour in the communities of Caracas as community work.

PROVIDING SPORTS OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL YOUTH.

What Is Our Community Impact/Involvement

The E.R.I.C. Speak Up campaign and clinics will continue to be one of the organization’s tools to help achieve its advocacy. Since its founding, E.R.I.C. has reached more than 200,000 youth in the U.S. and around the world, a testament to the success of the Speak Up campaign.

In Colombia since 2017, there have been 159 clinical E.R.I.C. Speak Up Tour benefiting 4,875 children and youth.

In Venezuela, the Gira Habla Claro the version of E.R.I.C. Speak Up in Spanish has been implemented since 2017, serving a student population of 12,590 beneficiaries ranging from 9 to 17 years old, for which it was necessary to apply 285 free sports educational clinics.

Earned value.

The experience of 7 years of global campaign has allowed us to create a sustainability system in the operation of free sports education clinics that goes from the creation of the educational curriculum to now the cancer symptom and motivate an active lifestyle of healthy habits, the consolidation of the network among the school community and the community of Ultimate Frisbee until the dissemination of the E.R.I.C. message and Frisbee Culture using the social media platform as the main means of promotion, determining a value earned for each student benefited of $ 5.

Sustainability Strategy

In the case of Venezuela, the need to implement an Ultimate School Program has been created; the experience has allowed us to develop the following approach:

• Train Teachers PE, Sports trainers and Ultimate players in the training of Ultimate Coach in order to generate new opportunities in teaching aimed at sports initiation.

• Donate Disks (Frisbee) to the beneficiary schools to articulate the development of Ultimate School Program as an educational tool for spreading the Frisbee Culture and the E.R.I.C message.

• Creating a championship interscholastic Ultimate Speak Up to motivate students to improve, creating opportunities for sports development.

• Engage educational institutions benefited in the dissemination of the Frisbee Culture and the E.R.I.C. message in their community, motivating students to know how to active lifestyle of healthy living habits is the key to beating cancer.

ACHIEVEMENTS.

Training of PE Teacher in sports initiation as Ultimate Coach.

Validation of the teaching method of Frisbee Culture  and the ERIC message in 250 students of 1st year of CODAZZI high school in Venezuela, generating a memeorable experience in the student community,they learned how an active lifestyle and good habits are the key in cancer prevention education.
