In 2023, we included a comprehensive training journey structured in four stages that promote and boost young women through the different phases of knowledge on the adoption of technology: from encouraging them to getting them closer to the technology field to walking with them through their first steps at work to completing specific training programs, mentoring, and certifications. All our proposals are free and were created with professionals from the industry and CET Community members, who joined as facilitators, mentors, and teachers to reach their Latin American peers.
As a result, this past year more than 1600 young women from 15 Latin American countries embarked on and expanded their journeys in technology by participating in our 13 proposals for free technology training and professional skills.
Encouragement stage: Chicas Líderes en Tecnología
We conducted the 10th edition of the Chicas Líderes en Tecnología event along with ICBC, PedidosYa, Salesforce and S&P Global, which was attended by over 150 young women from 5 countries of the region. We approached young women using Artificial Intelligence: they participated in digital stands and panels, interacted with AI apps, and explored workshops along with 12 leaders from the technological field.
Devices giveaway & workshop on Building bias-free technology
32% of the young women who approach the Chicas en Tecnología Community do not have access to their own technological devices. This year, we gave away 91 computers and tablets with the support of our sponsors and donors.
Most of these devices were delivered right after a workshop on Building bias-free technology. The recipients were 70 young women, aged between 13 and 23, who are in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability and are beneficiaries of social programs carried out by other allied civil society organizations.
This way, workshop participants not only identified real problems in their environments and explored how they could solve them from a plural and diverse approach through technology, but also each of them was gifted a tablet computer in order to be able to receive training and continue their journeys in technology.
#CensoCET
The CET Census (#CensoCET) is a survey we are currently conducting to gain deeper insights into all the young women who have ever participated in our initiatives since our beginning in 2015. We are interested in understanding how they have continued their educational and professional paths, and in highlighting their voices as part of our community. Our aim is to empower more teenagers and women in Latin America to take center stage in the tech industry.
Encounter with the Ecosystem
Diverse representatives from the private sector, government, educational organizations, and civil society participated in a meeting moderated and starred by the #CETAmbassadors themselves, where these young women shared first-hand what their journey was like to grow in the technological field with its obstacles and possibilities. 2024 Planning
In recent months, we have been in the process of planning the 2024 programme to continue professionalizing our training journey. The new initiatives will begin to be implemented between late March and April: we will continue to implement motivational initiatives (such as workshops in schools and an in-person edition of the 'Chicas Líderes en Tecnología' event) and improve the initial & specifics training proposals to bring even more opportunities to young women.
