We trust this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. On behalf of Ikirwa School, we would like to express our deepest gratitude for your continued support and commitment to our mission of empowering students in rural Tanzania through education.

Your generous contributions have played a transformative role in the lives of students in some of the most underserved communities. Through your sponsorship, we have been able to provide access to quality education, essential resources, and life-changing opportunities to countless children in our Madwe community.

Over the past year, your support has enabled us to make significant strides in improving educational outcomes and creating a positive impact in our school family. Here are some highlights of the achievements made possible by your sponsorship:

Access to Quality Education: Your support has facilitated the enrollment of 200 students in our school, ensuring they have access to a well-rounded and quality education.

Empowering Girls: Through targeted initiatives, we have been able to empower girls in the community by promoting gender equality in education, providing them with the tools and resources to thrive academically.

Education Opens Up a Thousand Opportunities

Music Enhances our Classrooms

Jambo.

We’ve had the most exciting September. Our Class Seven students graduated on September 16th and what a magical day it was on campus. Many of these graduates have been sponsored throughout the years and this has insured them an education that is uninterrupted due to financial hardships faced by their families. All of our wonderful graduates will continue on to secondary school and their dreams of a bright future will continue. We are forever grateful to our donors and your generosity.

The lower classes continue to enjoy math, science, reading and history. Their ability to easily transition between Swahili and English is always impressive. We worked hard over the summer to increase our classroom libraries so the students will have additional resources and and the opportunity to enjoy literature and expand their understanding of the world outside of Midawe and the structured government based curriculum. Our youngest children love being read to while our older students just enjoy losing themselves in fantasy or fiction.

This summer we were lucky enough to have a number of volunteers donate a electric piano, a class set of recorders and several drums. These special gifts allowed Mr. Jackson and Mr. Alex to implement music into the classroom and parts of the curriculum. Our students are incredible dancers and singers and love music. These special gifts helped to incorporate the Arts into the students daily lessons and have brought added joy to our campus.

Your continued financial support, letters of encouragement and connections on Facebook and Instagram allow us to know your watching us grow, not only as a school, but as young people who will one day be the leaders of industries, educators, farmers, musicians or whatever their hearts desire. Please keep Tuesday, November, 28th marked on your calenders. This will be our largest GlobalGiving campaign of the year. This will allow you to make your finical contributions go further and will positively impact the lives of our students and their families. Without our donors many of our students would not have the opportunity to dream of a life outside of the village of Midawe.

Education is the Key to Success

What an amazing spring it has been around the school. The laughter and learning going on in the classrooms makes being a part of Ikirwa such a joy. “Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing and learning to do.” Everyday, the children are working on their studies, either inside the classroom or out on the lawn. The students in every class are actively participating in their learning through discussions, movements and cooperative learning.

The younger students in the baby classes are practicing their letters, sounds and phonics through songs and movements. Hearing them sing and watching them dance pulls at our heartstrings. It is a joy to watch them develop language and literacy skills. They are all using their voices to practice phonemic awareness, rhyming and many other phonics skills that will set them up for success as they head into the primary classes.

The primary classes (1-2) are practicing sight words, blends and writing. They have been practicing decoding and spelling sound relationships. We have been focusing a lot on reading, but also transferring that to their writing. Many of them are still using phonetic spelling, but the more they practice the more they have mastered. Math is always a fun time of the day and many of them can easily count up to 50. The support of all the teachers makes it possible for success.

Classes 3-7 have been focused on reading comprehension, writing, and mastering higher level math concepts. The Regional Exams were last month and the students performed beautifully on them. They are home for a few weeks and will be back again focused on achieving greater success. They feel that what they sacrifice now in school makes it all worth it for their future.

The positive learning environment that makes up our school encourages the students to be more motivated and have higher learning goals. We are blessed to have a worldwide community of donors who support our goal of academic success in a language rich environment.
