Mackenzie began attending Wellington CASA Montessori Centre in May this year. She is 1.
Much of Mackenzie's development this year has been to strengthen her movement skills of walking, balance, coordination, and using her hands in different ways.
She has been given the opportunities to develop her gross-motor skills through day-to-day activity and using equipment to stabilse her while strengthening her body, such as trolleys, bikes, stairs and climbing frames.
She has begun to do activities that imitate daily living tasks. She enjoys wiping tables and furniture with cloths, washing dishes, and has begun to use a mop. All of these require body movements necessary to develop balance, body core strength, and shoulder and arm strength.
She has worked with toys to develop the use of her hand and hand coordination. She can thread rings over dowels, post items - large and small, and has begun to use wrist movement to post items such as discs. Finger dexterity, movement of the hand and wrist, and hand strength are all very important skills in childhood development.
Mackenzie has developed her communication skills and is beginning to move from non-verbal communication to using some words. She has developed the skill to repeat words she hears often, such as the names of other children in the class.
Mackenzie's time this year at CASA has required loving and care. She is happy and confident during the day with us.
