Final Report for Bulindi GlobalGiving Campaign
With your help BridgIT Water Foundation was able to raise enough funding to complete the campaign’s two water wells in western Uganda. The beneficiaries of this project are the 300 wild chimpanzees living in this area, and the 1,560 people living in the 2 benefiting villages, Nyakabaale and Kyesiga East. BridgIT wants to express its supreme gratitude to the contributors to these projects. Your generosity has allowed us to provide quantum improvements in the lives of the villagers, while helping conserve the chimpanzees. Thank you very much.
With the completion of these 2 wells, BridgIT has now funded 14 water wells in this chimpanzee conservation / clean, safe water project. The Bulindi Chimpanzee & Community Project (BCCP) continues to be a great partner, allowing BridgIT to expand its work into animal conservation. This work is so important because as people continue to cut forests for cooking fuel and other uses, the chimpanzees lose habitat, and conflicts arise. People venturing into the remaining chimp habitat to collect surface water increase tensions, and children have been hurt by the chimps. We need to build more water wells in the villages surrounding the chimp habitat so people and chimps can leave each other alone.
Suubi Community Projects Uganda is BridgIT’s official implementing partner in Uganda. Thank you Steven Beingana, Director, for your tireless work to bring water to your people.
Tragically, Jackie Rohen the Co-Director of BCCP passed away just before the second well was completed, and everyone involved in this project mourns her loss. Jackie dedicated her life to improving the lot of people living in western Uganda as well as the Bulindi Chimpanzees. She was loved by all, and will be greatly missed. The Kyesiga East Village well is dedicated to her memory. RIP Jackie X.
