Project Report | Feb 27, 2020
Winter 2020 Bulindi Chimps/Water Wells Project Rpt

By Tom Webber | Development Director

Hand Dug Well Construction
Hand Dug Well Construction

Thanks to our generous supporters, construction started on the first well from this crowdfunding campaign on February 25, 2020. To say the approximately 600 residents of Nyakabale Village are excited about this project would be the understatement of the year! This people are absolutely ecstatic about this new well, which will allow the women and children to avoid long hikes to collect water in the chimpanzee habitat!!  We will provide more information about the construction phase of this project in the next interim report.  See the attached photos from a prior well in the Hoima District.

The following activities represent the scope of work for this hand-dug water well:

  1. Preliminary site clearing and mobilization
  2. Digging open well (1.5 meter diameter)
  3. Lining the well with concrete rings
  4. Construction of a concrete drainage channel.
  5. Constructing a fence using poles (6” diameter) and barbed wire (community contribution).
  6. Supply & Installation of Indian Mark II modified Hand pump complete with rods, head & handle, and elevated Water Tank
  7. Carry out water test and supply results
  8. Supply and install wooden pumping guide
  9. Training the village water committee on the use of, repair, and sustainability of the equipment
  10. Signage on completed project

We need to raise an additional US$1,500 to complete the second well.  Can you please make a contribution to help us raise enough funding for the second well?  Thank you.
