We are proud to present the 2019 cohort of future Community Health Leaders and the neighborhoods they represent:
Diana, 18 - Doña Agueda
Ambar, 16 - Doña Agueda
Marleny, 29 - Baitoa Centro
Kenia, 39 - Baitoa Centro
Griselda, 54 - San José Afuera
Victoria, 41 - San José Afuera
Blanca - San Jose Adentro
Ana Patricia, 17 - San Jose Adentro
Miguelina, 53 - San Jose Adentro
Milagros - Mocan
Most of the women who enroll in the Community Health Leaders course have to be invited by staff & other leaders and visited multiple times before they finally overcome their fears & uncertainties and agree to participate. Miguelina is different, though. Miguelina is 53 years old and lives in the Baitoa community of San Jose Adentro. She came to us looking to sign up for the class. There are 5 leaders in her community, including Miguelina's daughter, Aracelis, who graduated in 2017. Miguelina witnessed the transformation that took place in these women's lives first-hand. Because she saw how they changed & how they are now able to serve their community, Miguelina knew that she wanted to learn what they had learned, so she too could grow personally and make a difference among her neighbors.
As you can see, we have a wide range of ages, and we're so excited to see what these women will accomplish throughout the course. Class will start in March, and we'll keep you updated on their progress.
Thank you all for giving these women the opportunity to realize their own leadership capacities and empower them with knowledge that will change not only their lives, but the lives of their friends, families, and neighbors.
