A report about Mask distribution to curb COVID-19

By Basule Barbara | A report about Mask distribution to curb COVID-19

KATALEMWA CHESHIRE HOME FOR REHABILITATION SERVICES UGANDA

REPORT ABOUT MASK DISTRIBUTION TO CURB THE SPREAD OF COVID-19

Since Uganda went on a lockdown in March 2020 as one of the preventive measures for COVID-19, our organizational programming was disrupted and a number of activities were halted most especially those that involve gatherings.  COVID-19 cases in Kampala are increasing more than anywhere else in the country due to congestion and relaxing of the lock down measures by government for citizens to get back to work.

There are still challenges for masses to accept using masks, as many feel they are uncomfortable/ not necessary and some can’t afford masks. Therefore, Katalemwa Cheshire Home designed and produced some Masks that were distributed in Makindye division Kampala district.

These masks were given to the local council committee members to act as models for village members to learn the relevance of using Masks most especially in public spaces. These masks were branded with a message “support a child with disability” as a reminder that most of the children with disabilities require our support in terms of medical, emotional and physical support.

The Katalemwa Cheshire home Team is continuing to make masks at the center and these are distributed in the community during outreach clinics, home visits and at the center for visiting clients.

Finally, the people in need of masks are many yet our resources are minimal to meet the current demand, therefore I would like to argue donors to support our organization to procure more materials to make masks as we fight against the spread of COVID-19.
