Hi everyone,
We are once again talking to you after some challenging months that demanded the very best from us. We’re still struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on the country. Nevertheless, the rural area of Colombia has benefited from this as long as digitization and connectivity have improved; the DANE (National Department for Statistics) also confirmed the extreme poverty was reduced only in rural areas during 2020, which despite the circumstances marks a positive for all of us.
Now, we will summarise some of the most important projects we have done during the last few months and that we seek to improve and continue in the upcoming months:
#CuentaSinCuento
Together with Fundación Bancolombia ( the social branch of Colombia’s biggest bank Bancolombia), we launched and deployed #CuentaSinCuento. A digital programme entirely based on WhatsApp where we taught some basic notions of financial education seeking to improve the financial aspects and knowledge of rural communities. We are very pleased with this initiative and maybe we could develop a second stage in the second half of the year. In addition, we hope this kind of innovative programmes can empower and increase financial and digital awareness among rural communities in Colombia.
AgendaJoven
AgendaJoven is a civil society initiative that seeks to empower and promote youth. It involves more than 1.000 participants, mostly people under 35 years of age that want to educate and promote development actions for their communities, which span almost all departments in Colombia. We are supporting this initiative since its creation and we hope this can help empower young people in those zones that were affected by the armed conflict in Colombia that we desperately want to leave behind.
Plan Nacional de Acción en Derechos Humanos (Human Rights National Action Plan).
Finally, we have been participating in a very innovative strategy that involves the participation of all 32 departments of Colombia plus Bogotá (the capital city of the country) by leading the co-creation strategy for the Human Rights National Action Plan. We have completed an impressive feat of leading digital-based conversations with thousands of people from all sorts of contexts and located across all the country.
We are relieved to know that we helped people express their opinions towards Human Rights and undoubtedly we tried to propel the opinions of those in the rural areas so that the national Government can listen to them.
We sincerely hope that as a team we can keep contributing to more communities across the country and our team is fully charged and focused on the second half of this year. Thanks for your continuous support and see you on the next report.
