Bring digital technology to 550 Colombian Farmers

Dear patron, 

We hope that you and your beloved ones healthy and positive through this pandemic. 

These times have been very challenging for us but also very rewarding. The pandemic has challenged all our activities and projects with several barriers and difficulties, however, it has also brought many positives and many more chances for us to do better for all the communities we work with.

First of all, we have had some webinars: ranging from" how to tell your story as a rural producer" to "connectivity alternatives in rural areas". We have shared our knowledge with hundreds of people that we would not be able to reach during the "normal life", that's something very positive from the pandemic, the digitization of all activities increased our reach and we're no longer a Cundinamarca-based organization but a nationwide one.

In addition, we are making progress towards our goal of having a new generation of rural leaders that can foster technology adoption and hence bring more opportunities to the rural context. We are really happy to announce that we will have the digital camp "Soy Campo, Soy Cambio" on which 19 youngsters from 14 different regions in Colombia will benefit from a 6-week training. This would not be possible without your support and we can't wait to show you the results from it.  

On the other side, we also ran some virtual training sessions with farmers from Granada regarding the creation of paperwork for tax purposes. This is a very challenging task for literate people due to the obsolete and counterintuitive platforms the government uses, however, we did train them so they could fill all the needed paperwork needed for some rural subsidies. One important outcome is a free digital guide on "how to fill your tax declaration and obtain your RUT" specially designed for farmers.

Finally, we welcome Alejandra and Leydy, two new members of the Mas Por TIC team. They will help us increase our outreach and improve both CultivoRed and the camp.

Esperamos que usted y sus seres queridos estén sanos y positivos a través de esta pandemia.

Estos tiempos han sido muy desafiantes para nosotros, pero también muy gratificantes. La pandemia ha desafiado todas nuestras actividades y proyectos con varias barreras y dificultades, sin embargo, también ha traído muchos aspectos positivos y muchas más oportunidades para que lo hagamos mejor para todas las comunidades con las que trabajamos.

En primer lugar, hemos tenido algunos webinars: que van desde "cómo contar tu historia como productor rural" hasta "alternativas de conectividad en zonas rurales". Hemos compartido nuestro conocimiento con cientos de personas a las que no podríamos llegar durante la "vida normal", eso es algo muy positivo de la pandemia, la digitalización de todas las actividades aumentó nuestro alcance y ya no somos una organización con especial alcance en Cundinamarca, ahora tenemos un alcance nacional.

Además, estamos avanzando hacia nuestro objetivo de tener una nueva generación de líderes rurales que puedan fomentar la adopción de tecnología y, por lo tanto, brindar más oportunidades al contexto rural. Estamos muy contentos de anunciar que tendremos el campamento digital "Soy Campo, Soy Cambio" en el que 19 jóvenes de 14 regiones diferentes de Colombia se beneficiarán de un entrenamiento de 6 semanas. Esto no sería posible sin su apoyo y estamos ansiosos por mostrarle los resultados.

Por otro lado, también realizamos unas jornadas de formación virtual con agricultores en Granada sobre la elaboración de trámites de impuestos. Esta es una tarea muy desafiante para las personas alfabetizadas debido a las plataformas obsoletas y contrarias a la intuición que usa el gobierno, sin embargo, podríamos capacitarlos para que puedan completar todo el papeleo necesario para algunos subsidios rurales. Un resultado importante es una guía digital gratuita sobre "cómo llenar su declaración de impuestos y obtener su RUT" especialmente diseñada para agricultores.

Finalmente, le damos la bienvenida a Alejandra y Leydy, quienes nos van a ayudar a aumentar nuestro alcance así como fortalecer CultivoRed y el campamento, entre otras actividades.
