Encouraging and Empowering Despite the New Normal

By Rob Bollinger | Founder and President of Nehemiah's Restoration

With the main focus of this project being to help ensure Orphans and Vulnerable Children receive as much support and empowerment as we can possibly give them, Nehemiah's Restoration has been working hard to encourage the children we work with who are dealing with the uncertainties a global pandemic has thrown at them, just like everyone else has been for the last year.

While Western countries, like the U.S. are beginning to go back to 'normal' and most people have access to the vaccine, things in Kenya are very much still in upheaval. Only 2% of the country's population has had access to the vaccines so far and that number isn't growing fast enough. Last week, thirteen counties, including the ones we have centers in, were placed under yet another lockdown by the government because of the spike in COVID cases in those counties. A 7pm curfew has been put in place, no public gatherings are allowed, markets have been closed, etc.

Desspite the lockdown, thankfully, schools have been allowed to remain open. And just one of the ways Nehemiah's Restoration has been working hard to take care of our OVC is by ensuring that the three students we sponsor for their post-secondary school education had all of their school fees taken care of and have the supplies they need in order to stay in school.

Attached you'll see pictures of Sharon, one of the Young Legend students and some of her friends. Sharon is studying public health and will be qualified to work in disease prevention once she has graduated. With the country's situation in regards to COVID the way it is now, we see the value in Sharon's education more than ever. And your donation has gone towards ensuring she's able to buy the lab coat she's wearing in these pictures, to help her buy the text books she needs for her classes, to help her stay in school. So as we continue to support these children during what is arguably one of the toughest seasons they've gone through, we thank you for your support to Nehemiah's Restoration.
