Dear Friends!
Thank you for your solidarity with Ukrainians during this very difficult time, for your heartwarming support and prayers! Ukraine has been at war for a whole year now. Despite all the roadblocks, Dzherelo Centre continues to receive more than 250 children and youth with disabilities for daily day care and rehabilitation programs.
Since this project took off, together with many other benefactors and partners, Dzherelo’s specialists have managed to provide emergency humanitarian aid in the form of more than 10,000 targeted relief kits and individual address social help to families with children with developmental difficulties. We have procured different types of these relief kits - they consisted of hygiene items, long-storage food, snacks, groceries, diapers, etc. Afterwards, this aid was assembled by Dzherelo's specialists and then shipped off to the beneficiaries. As for now, our Centre has been providing this kind of support to children with disabilities and their families in 7 regions of western Ukraine. We have distributed this aid to children who regularly attend Dzherelo, but also to refugee children in modular towns, in hospitals, etc.
Simultaneously, we are implementing many emergency response projects. Already more than 9 thousand children, including refugees, have been able to receive psychological help at Dzherelo, we have assessed their needs, provided specialized services as needed, and currently we are managing cases to normalize their life in the west of Ukraine.
All at once, there is currently an energy crisis in Ukraine, the system is heavily damaged due to the constant shelling, and the power outages frequently cut off entire neighborhoods for long periods of time. It was hard to sustain our uninterrupted operation under such conditions, although our international partners have provided us with diesel generators, which allow our Centre to run autonomously.
We have a bomb shelter in the basement of Dzherelo’s building, all children and young people go down there every time there is an air raid alarm. We stocked up on water and food, various games; our specialists sing songs with the children and pray to relieve the anxiety and fear. We have developed clear safety protocols, during an alarm our employees don't use elevators, everybody knows what to do.
But we handled everything, despite the fears about a freezing winter and the dangers of wartime. Spring is coming soon, the days are getting longer, and surely the worst is behind us. All of us, besides our work at Dzherelo, support the Armed Forces of Ukraine as much as we can, prepare and deliver home-made food, and conduct fundraisers for the purchase of the necessary equipment or pickup trucks. Every day people are evacuated to Lviv from front-line cities, we provide crisis assistance to children with difficulties in seven regions in the west of Ukraine.
Dzherelo Centre stays strong and resilient to the challenges. We will continue our work providing support to Ukrainian children with disabilities. Thank you for being with us, and let’s keep up the good work for the benefit of those in need!
Let's stick together to our Victory!
