Bracing ourselves for the winter

By Danylo Kapral | Fundraiser

The war in Ukraine continues, Dzherelo Centre must be flexible in order to constantly adapt to rapidly changing circumstances. Day care and rehabilitation programs continue their operation. Dzherelo's day care and rehabilitation programs continue their work. On more risky days in terms of possible missile strikes, Dzherelo's buses do not bring children to the Centre, the parents must do it by themselves. Dzherelo's building has a large basement, so we can take shelter there. There are small supplies of water and food, we ask parents that all children have their individual emergency backpacks with them.

A lot of children of refugees temporarily living in the Lviv region are actively visiting our rehabilitation programs. We have also hired 10 new staff members from among the refugees, they are working as rehabilitation specialists, social workers, educators, and a speech therapist.

Dzherelo also allocates a lot of resources to support refugees - together with partners, we are implementing a crisis assistance program for refugees living in 7 western regions of the country. Within the framework of this program, families raising children with disabilities can receive in-kind assistance, counseling services, special social services, rehabilitation equipment, etc. We plan to expand the coverage of this project to 16 regions.

The Centre's team also pays a lot of attention to winterization measures. Due to the fact that Russia began to actively destroy Ukraine's energy infrastructure, it is necessary to be prepared for heating or power outages. In order to ensure a stable power supply in case of an emergency, Dzherelo has purchased a diesel generator that can provide the entire building with electricity. To ensure the winterization of its beneficiaries, Dzherelo Centre plans to purchase alternative heating equipment, thermal blankets, etc. The winter promises to be cold and merciless, so it is important to think about all options. And with your help, we will cope with this task easily. Together to victory!
